Anytime is a great time to visit Davao City. But if you ask any local, they’d always say visiting Davao City in August is your best bet.
August is perfect for travel to my city. It’s the time of the year when the city becomes most alive with festivities. Here are the reasons why you should visit Durianburg in August.
It’s time for the Kadayawan Festival!
The King of Festivals happen in the middle of August. Witness colorful parades, tribal rituals and so much more during the two-week long festivities. It’s the best time to experience the local culture.
Durian season
Durian is in season in August. The fruit smells like hell but tastes like heaven, as most would tell you. But don’t take anyone’s word for it. Try durian for yourself and have a one-of-a-kind experience.
Beautiful flowers bloom
Majestic flowers like the rare waling-waling come down from the highlands to grace trade fairs and parades. These living treasures are displayed at the SM fair and a few other places that sell local flora.
Other fruits are in season.
Mangosteen, marang, lanzones, and pomelo are also in season during this time of year. Aside from bingeing on durian, we can also have your fill of the local fruits. They’re available in malls and at the Farmer’s Market but the cheapest place to get them are in sidewalks.
There’s excellent shopping, too!
During Kadayawan season, malls and shopping centers participate by holding big discount sales. Save as much as 70% off of apparel, electronics, books and even furniture! Great bargains are also available in street shops near markets and at the Roxas Night Market.
You get beach weather this time of the year.
Davao City never gets hammered by typhoons. We may get the occasional heavy rains, flooding even, but it’s generally sunny in Davao City in August. After enjoying city life, you can head to Samal Island to soak up the sun and work on your tan. Samal has great mangoes, too!
And it’s never a bad time for highland adventures.
Davao’s highlands are always ready to provide great adventures. A short trip south can get you up close and personal with the Philippine Eagles. And then there’s chilly BuDa where log cabins and a sea of clouds promise a one-of-a-kind Davao experience.
